Karina Villa for IL Comptroller

Karina Villa is running for IL State Comptroller and has earned the support of progressive leaders like U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, Congressman Chuy García, and more. Karina knows budgets are moral documents, and that we need bold fighters in Springfield to protect us from Trump’s attacks on our state.

Born and raised in West Chicago, Karina has been a lifelong resident of Illinois and currently serves as State Senator for Illinois’ 25th District. Raised by hard working immigrant parents, Karina was taught, at a young age, the importance of family, hard work and compassion for others.

Before public office, she worked as a school social worker, where she saw firsthand the devastating impact of the Republican led Rauner administration’s budget cuts on schools and communities. In 2018, she flipped a Republican-held state House seat, and in 2020, she did it again by ousting Republican Jim Oberweis in the 25th Senate District.

Since joining the state legislature, Karina has worked hard to create a balanced budget for Illinois. She was a loud voice for workers rights and protections during COVID, helping small businesses stay open. Time after time, Karina has gone to bat for Illinois families, delivering middle-class tax relief and championing state budgets that invest in schools, expand affordable housing, and lower healthcare costs. Now she’s running for Illinois Comptroller to be the people’s watchdog, protecting every hard-earned tax dollar and ensuring a government as honest and hardworking as Illinois families.

The Illinois Primary Election takes place on Tuesday, March 17.

Juanita Irizarry for Cook County Board of Review - District 1

Juanita Irizarry has spent her life fighting for fairness and standing up for everyday people. A housing expert, non-profit leader, and lifelong devotee for justice, Juanita has taken on billionaires, corrupt politicians, special interests, and won. Now, she’s running for the Cook County Board of Review to make big corporations pay their fair share in property taxes and to deliver real relief for working families.

Raised in Humboldt Park, Juanita grew up in a household rooted in service. Her parents turned their apartment into a community hub, tutoring neighborhood kids, teaching them how to garden, and sharing fresh produce with families in need. Even as renters, they showed Juanita that stable housing builds strong, connected families.

Juanita knows firsthand what it’s like to lose a home. Skyrocketing rents forced her parents from their apartment, and years later, she and her spouse faced the same hardship when rent exploded. That’s why she dedicated her career to ensuring every family can afford a safe, stable home. She’s built affordable housing, led homeownership programs, and advocated for fair housing policies protecting renters, homeowners, and seniors.

Juanita began her career at the Olive Branch Mission, providing food, counseling, and housing to unhoused individuals, before working with community groups to build affordable homes and remediate lead hazards.

Over her 35-year career, Juanita has served as a leader in the non-profit, philanthropic, and government sectors. A proud graduate of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Juanita has taught college courses on urban planning, non-profit management, and community development. Today, she runs her own consulting business advising non-profits, housing organizations, and women of color leaders on how to create social impact. Juanita lives in Humboldt Park with her spouse and stepdaughter.
